Animal Farm: Differences between the Book and the Film Essay

Animal Farm Essay Many movies are based on books, and in many stories the books are more detailed. There could be many differences between a book and a movie. These differences could impact the audience’s point of view. There are many differences between the book Animal Farm, and the movie, that impact the audience by changing their perspective of the book. There are many changes in the movie, but the two major changes are, the song Beasts of England, and the death of old Major. First, in the book Animal Farm Beasts of England is a song that makes the animals rebel against the humans.

This song was first introduced when old Major gave his speech. This song in the book is in chapter 1, page 13. These are some lines from the song: “Soon and late the day are coming, Tyrant Man shall be overthrown, and the fruitful fields of EnglandShall are trod by beasts alone. For that day we all must labour, though we die before it break; Cows and horses, geese and turkeys, All must toil for freedom’s sake. ” This song Beasts of England has a really magnificent effect on the animals, and influences them on to rebel.

On the other side, in the movie the song has been changed to Beasts of the world and has a really low impact on the animals. This song was first sung by old Major during his speech. This in the movie is in 14:00 minute past. The song Beasts of the world is only sang one time in the movie and it has a low impact on the animals. Therefore, the changing of the song has a huge effect on the animals and changes the perspective of the audience by telling them the song is really not that important.

This matters because, in the book the author might be trying to say that the song Beast of England is a song of the rebellion, but the change could change the entire idea by showing the song is nothing to the animals, that the song does not matter to them. The other difference in the movie is, the death of old major has been changed. In the book, old Major dies naturally after two to three days after giving his speech. At the beginning of chapter two the book state’s “Three nights later old Major died peacefully in his sleep. His body was buried at ht foot of the orchard. Orwell 15. The death of old Major did not really affect the animals because he died because of his age. On the other hand, in the movie old Major is accidently shot by Mr. Jones. Right after Major gives his speech Jones accidently shoots old Major because he thought there was something in his barn. This occurs in the movie when Jones fires two shots in the air and one hits Major, and Major falls out the barn on the other side. The shooting of old Major really affected the animals in the movie because now the animals had more anger against the humans.

To sum up, the death of old Major impacts the audience significantly by showing the humans are actually bad to the animals. The differences in the book and the movie animal farm had a big impact on the audience by changing their point of view. The major differences were the song Beasts of England, and the death of old Major. The differences between the movie and the book are really important because it changes the meaning of the story by changing the main idea. This really matters because in the book the author might be trying to say something but the differences might actually change what the author is trying to say. BY: Dhrumil Parikh
